Abstract:〔Abstract〕 Objective To investigate the current status of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preventive healthcare services in the Shanghai Pudong New Area and to provide strategies for the development of these services. Methods From January to December 2022, the study selected six pilot units for TCM preventive healthcare in the Shanghai Pudong New Area as the research subjects, including health administrative departments, medical institution management, TCM practitioners specializing in preventive healthcare, and community residents. The study investigated the completion status and evaluation of TCM preventive healthcare work in the Shanghai Pudong New Area in 2022, as well as community residents' awareness and suggestions regarding TCM preventive healthcare services. Results A total of 3 857 individuals were surveyed across the six pilot units, with a total of 24 352 outpatient registrations. The total revenue from TCM preventive healthcare outpatient services reached 59 797 020.60 yuan, including herbal medicine income of 10 009 611.64 yuan and treatment fees income of 2 096 917.13 yuan. There were 1 851 patient visits for key disease categories and 967 clinical case validations. The completion rate of TCM constitution evaluation, satisfaction with TCM preventive healthcare work, and community support were all below 60%. Among 3 351 community residents surveyed, 2 041 (60.91%) were aware of the TCM preventive healthcare services in the Shanghai Pudong New Area, but the awareness of specific service items was also below 60%. Suggestions from the residents included establishing a TCM preventive healthcare service team (85.80%),conducting TCM preventive healthcare lectures (75.89%), setting up a sub-health consultation clinic (72.55%), and establishing TCM health records (65.23%). Conclusion In 2022, the Shanghai Pudong New Area faced a shortage of patients in TCM preventive healthcare, with overall low outpatient volume and an incomplete charging mechanism. The low level of community awareness and satisfaction with the TCM preventive healthcare services provided by the area limited its development. In the future, it will be necessary to establish a TCM preventive healthcare service team, increase the promotion and support of TCM preventive healthcare services, and establish a sound charging mechanism to enhance social recognition.
