Abstract:〔Abstract〕 Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of strontium containing desensitizing toothpaste on dentin hypersensitivity (DH) using Meta-analysis, and provide reference for clinical treatment. Methods The randomized controlled trials (RCTs) literature on the effects of strontium containing desensitizing toothpaste on DH were collected from PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Central, and CNKI databases from January 1, 1990 to March 1, 2020. Stata 14.0 software was used for Meta-analysis of all the literature data extracted. Results A total of 8 RCT articles were included. Based on the longest trial period of the 8 studies, a meta-analysis was conducted on the differences in probing and air spray detection between strontium containing desensitized toothpaste and control desensitized toothpaste. There was no statistical significance in sensitivity values of probing and air detection between the test group and the control group (P > 0.05). According to the duration of the experiment and the classification of outcome indicators, subgroup analysis was conducted by combining the sensitivity values of immediate, ≤ 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12 weeks for probing and air detection. The results showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in the sensitivity values of probing and air detection (P > 0.05). Conclusion Compared with the control group toothpaste, strontium containing desensitizing toothpaste cannot reduce DH effectively , and more studies are needed to further verify its effectiveness in relieving DH.
